Status

24-hour stories with photos, videos, or captions that disappear automatically.

A Status is a short update that appears in your followers' Status bar for 24 hours and then disappears.

What you can post

  • A photo or video, optionally with a caption.
  • A caption-only status (text up to 500 characters).

Where to find it

  • Web: the Status bar sits above your feed at the top of /news/following and /news/public.
  • Android: the same horizontal status row sits at the top of the Home tab.

Your own status appears first, with an Add status affordance (a + on your avatar). Other people's statuses appear next to yours.

Create a status

  1. Tap your avatar in the Status bar (the one with the +).
  2. Choose to upload an image or video from your device, or write a caption-only status.
  3. Add a caption (optional).
  4. Submit.

Your status is now live for 24 hours.

View someone's status

  • Tap a contact's avatar in the Status bar.
  • The viewer auto-advances roughly every 5 seconds per status.
  • You can swipe or tap to move between statuses.
  • Public marks the status as viewed the first time you watch it.

Who saw your status

Open one of your own statuses to see the viewer list and a count of who watched it.

Delete your status

While viewing your own status, use the menu to delete it. Statuses you don't delete are removed automatically after 24 hours.
