Profile
Your avatar, cover, bio, and personal details — and how others see them.
Your profile is your home on Public. It shows your name, avatar, cover image, bio, and a feed of your own posts.
What's on your profile
- Avatar and cover images.
- Display name and username (your
@username). - Bio and optional details you choose to add (see below).
- Stats: Posts, Following, Followers, plus the date you Joined.
- Your own posts (with the composer on top, on your own profile).
- Any badges you've earned through Challenges or Gamification.
- A verified badge if you're on the Pro subscription.
- A pro label that may appear on your comments and other interactions.
Optional profile details (all voluntary)
After signup, Public may invite you to add more about yourself — similar to other social networks. Nothing below is required. You can skip every prompt and fill these in later from Settings.

Important: Your login email and verification phone used for account security are not shown on your public profile. Only contact details you enter in the optional public contact section can appear to others.
Tag fields (interests, hobbies, places travelled) support up to 20 items, each up to 50 characters.
Open your profile
- Web: click your avatar in the sidebar/header, or visit
/u/your-usernameor/profile/your-id. - Android: tap your avatar.
Other people's profiles open at the same /u/:username and /profile/:id URLs.
Edit your profile
- Web: open
/settings→ About you (full optional form) plus avatar, cover, and username. - Android: open Settings from the Menu tab → About you (optional details) for extended fields; use Profile Settings / Personal Details for name, gender, date of birth, and bio.
Onboarding after your first login walks through optional steps (profile, places & work, more about you). Each step can be skipped.
Username rules
- 3 to 30 characters.
- Letters, numbers, and underscores only.
- Must be unique across Public.
- A custom username (i.e., choosing your own short, branded one) is available on Creator and Pro plans. See Subscriptions.
What others see
Other people see optional profile fields only when you fill them in. Empty fields are hidden. Your account email is never shown publicly.
Gender set to Hidden is not displayed to others. Relationship status set to prefer not to say is omitted from public view.
If you want to limit interaction with someone specifically, block them.
