Account & safety
Block
Stop someone from interacting with you on Public.
When you block someone, they can no longer:
- Follow you (any existing follow is removed).
- See your posts in their feed.
- Message you in chat.
- Mention or comment on your content.
You won't see their content either.
Public does not currently offer a separate mute action. Blocking is the available option for limiting interaction.
Block from a profile
- Open the person's profile.
- Open the more menu (the ⋮ icon).
- Choose Block and confirm.
Unblock someone
You can review and unblock from your Blocked Users list:
- Web: open
/blocked-users. - Android: open the Menu tab → Blocked Users.
Find the person and choose Unblock.
What blocking does (and doesn't)
- Blocking is silent — Public does not notify the blocked person.
- Blocking does not delete past content. Posts and messages you exchanged before the block remain in conversations until either side deletes them.
- If you block someone and then unblock, you have to follow each other again to restore that connection.
When to report instead
Blocking handles personal annoyance. For things that break Public's rules — harassment, spam, dangerous behavior — also file a report. The moderation team reviews reports separately.
