Getting started
Getting started
Install the app, create an account, sign in, and finish your welcome checklist.
Pick your platform
You can use Public in two places:
- Web — open public.kim in any modern browser. Works on phones, tablets, and computers.
- Android — install Public on Google Play.
Most features work the same in both apps. Anywhere they differ, the Web and Android sections call it out.
In order
- Install — Install the Android app (skip this if you only use the web).
- Create an account — Sign up using your email or Google. You can also enter an invite code if a friend gave you one.
- Sign in — Sign in the next time you open the app.
- Finish your welcome checklist — First steps walks you through the 7-step welcome onboarding (avatar, profile, people, pages, first post, and more).

Common questions
- Can I use the same account on web and Android?
- Yes. Public uses one account across public.kim and the Android app. Sign up once and sign in anywhere.
- Do I need an invite code to sign up?
- No. Invite codes are optional. If a friend shared one, enter it during sign-up for referral benefits.
- What is the welcome checklist?
- After your first sign-in, Public guides you through seven onboarding steps: avatar, profile, people, pages, first post, and more. See First steps in Getting started.
