iOS permissions
What Public asks iOS to allow, and how to change your mind.
Public asks iOS for permissions only when a feature needs them. You can grant or revoke each one any time.
Permissions Public uses

| Camera | First time you capture a photo or video for a post, status, or chat | Capture media. |
| Photos | First time you pick or save photos and videos | Share photos and videos from your library, and save downloads. Public uses the system Photos picker. |
| Microphone | First time you send a voice message or use character voice | Voice messages and voice chat. |
| Face ID | When unlocking the password vault | Unlock saved logins without typing your master password every time. |
| Speech recognition | First time you talk to an AI character hands-free | Turn speech into text. |
| Contacts | If you use friend suggestions | Suggest people you may know. Optional. |
| Tracking | App Tracking Transparency prompt, if shown | Keep content and ads relevant. You can decline. |
Public does not need Location or Bluetooth for core features.
Change a permission later
- Open iOS Settings → Public.
- Tap any permission to Allow or Don't Allow it.
For notifications you can also open Public → Settings → Open iOS notification settings.
If you deny Notifications, you'll stop getting pushes — see Push notifications not working (iOS) for how to turn them back on. If you deny Camera, you can still pick photos and videos from your library. If you deny Photos, the picker and save-to-library actions won't work.
